Chun emigrated from South Korea along with her parents, when she was just 4 years old. Her father was an architect and mother, an artist, who had taught her how to sew. “That’s where the fascination with thin materials comes from,” explained Chun. It was because of this interest that she went on to become a professor of design and material culture at Parsons The New School for Design. She had also taught architecture at Columbia University, the University of Pennsylvania and the University of Arizona. Her experience as a material specialist helped her immensely in designing the solar lights in her later life as a social entrepreneur. |
